Mom's resource: how to find time for yourself without feeling guilty

Being a mother is a full-time job with no vacations or days off.

Constantly taking care of the child, household chores, work and an endless list of tasks take all the energy. In such a rhythm, it is easy to forget about yourself. But the truth is that a mother has the right to rest and time for herself. This is not selfishness, but a necessity, because without a resource, a mother quickly burns out, becomes irritated and exhausted.

Why is it important for a mother to have time for herself?

Restoring energy. Without rest, even the most loving mother will not be able to give her child attention and care.

An example for the child. The baby sees that taking care of herself is normal. This is how a healthy attitude towards life balance is formed.

Maintaining femininity. Being a mother is not only about diapers and porridge. She is also a woman who has her own dreams, interests and needs.

Prevention of burnout. Taking care of yourself reduces the risk of depression, anxiety and physical exhaustion.

Why does guilt arise?

Many mothers admit: as soon as they sit down with a book or drink coffee, the thought immediately comes to mind: “I could have spent this time with my child.”

Reasons:

  • social pressure (“a mother should live only for her child”);
  • stereotypes (“a good mother sacrifices herself”);
  • comparison with others (“others manage everything, but I don’t”).

But in reality, a happy mother = a happy child. And the quality of these moments is more important than the number of hours spent with the baby.

How to find time for yourself without feeling guilty?

1. Small rituals

You don’t always need hours to rest. A cup of coffee in silence, 10 minutes of breathing exercises or a short walk alone with yourself can already restore energy.

2. Planning

Write down in your diary not only children’s chores, but also your time. “Mom’s resource” should be an item on the schedule just like vaccinations or shopping.

3. Delegation

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. A husband, grandmother, nanny or even older children can take on some of the responsibilities. This is normal.

4. Micro-rest

Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Use short breaks — when the child is sleeping or playing. These “pocket” 5–15 minutes also work.

5. Self-development

Online courses, reading, hobbies — all this helps to feel not only a mother, but also a person.

6. Reframe your thinking

Replace the thought “I am taking time away from my child” with “I am setting an example for my child to love themselves.” This removes the feeling of guilt.

What can you do for yourself?

  • Spa treatments at home: mask, warm bath, scented candles.
  • A walk without a goal, just to breathe.
  • A cup of coffee in your favorite coffee shop.
  • Yoga, sports, dancing.
  • Writing thoughts in a diary.
  • A movie or a book before bed.

The main rule: do it for yourself, not for a "tick".
